L-Asparaginase (E.C.3.5.1.1, L-Asparagin amido hydrolase) is used for treatment of human cancer for its potential to inhibit the growth of neoplastic cells. The drug widely used in the treatment of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, the most common form of pediatric cancer. In our laboratory, we have isolated twenty microbes (bacteria and fungi) capable of producing L-asparaginase.Further work will be focused on the process optimization for the production of L-asparaginase by submerged fermentation and solid fermentation.
