For a great many people, debilitating pain is a constant backdrop of daily life. And the numbers  affected are set to increase. As demographics change and the mean age of the population rises, the  incidence of chronic diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and rheumatoid arthritis is expected to skyrocket, and with it, the  need for better anti-inflammatory drugs and analgesics. With the withdrawal of the popular drugs in the recent times, there is a need for enhanced understanding of  pain mechanisms which will not only provide novel targets for medical intervention but also provide painkillers with markedly improved toxicities and side effect profiles.

The increasing knowledge of the specific prostaglandin synthases and their ligands through structure and target based drug design approaches will enables novel drug design strategies which  in turn will help in accelerating and optimizing the design of novel drugs and provide many newopportunities for developing novel therapeutics.
I plan to investigate the role of specific prostaglandin synthases with an emphasis on the enzyme Prostaglandin E synthase and its inhibitors.
