Pectic substances are complex colloidal acid polysaccharides with a backbone of galacturonic acid residues linked by a -1,4-glycosidic linkages. Pectin lyase (PL) and polygalacturonate lyase (PGL) are the two important pectic transeliminases. Pectic transeliminases have potential applications in food, textile (cotton scouring) and in various other industries. In the present context we have isolated Debaryomyces nepalensis from rotten apple which is capable of producing both PL and PGL. The strain is able to grow on natural substrates rich in pectin. Media optimization was done by using Plackett Burman method and by CCD. Further studies on bioreactor, biochemical characterization and the usage of solid state fermentation for production of PL and PGL by the strain are under progress. |
