Research in the group involves two primary areas
Protein structure and function
We study the structures and mechanisms of enzymes to understand the molecular basis of enzyme catalysis and specificity. A combination of approaches including X-ray crystallography, protein engineering, biophysical methods and bioinformatics to explore enzyme structure and function. This knowledge can be used to develop and modify enzymes for use in biotechnology applications.
Computational Molecular Evolution
Studies in this area focuses on investigating the evolution of gene/protein function using bioinformatics methods of data-mining, phylogeny and comparative genomics.
