The aim of this programme is to train engineers to carry out research and development in the field of biomedical devices and technology. This training would enable them
- To be leaders in research and development
- To be innovators and entrepreneurs in biomedical technology
The students will study and train at all the three participating Institutes.
The selection will be done once a year on an All-India basis, through a screening test and/or a personal interview of eligible candidates. If needed, the syllabus for the screening test will be sent to eligible candidates well before the test.
The same online application as valid for the regular PhD program in the Department of Biotechnology needs to be filled with the following difference: in the research proposal, the first line should read, `Interested in the Joint PhD-BDT programme of IIT Madras, SCTIMST and CMC’.
It may be helpful to note that the selected candidates who join the program will work on a thesis with two guides – one from any Department at IIT Madras, and the other, a suitable collaborator, by mutual agreement between the guides, from either SCTIMST or CMC. Thus, the student will have a significant choice in the thesis topic.
Please see the newspaper advertisement for important dates in the application process.
