Vascular system comprising of arteries, veins and capillaries play a central role in transport of oxygen and nutrients to different tissues. Different constituents of blood vessels namely endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells and circulating vascular progenitor cells work in synchrony to maintain vascular homeostasis and tissue perfusion. Any aberration in their behavior leads to cardio-vascular complications such as hypertension, myocardial infarction, stoke and peripheral vascular disease. The primary objective of my research group is to elucidate molecular and cellular mechanisms responsible for vascular dysfunction in diabetes and metabolic syndrome. We employ tissue culture, molecular and cellular biology approaches to study the same.
